Masa (2006)

THE ROOFTOP THEATRE GROUP PRESENTS:

MASA - THE OFFICIAL ROOFTOP RECIPE GUIDE TO SPECIAL OCCASIONS

A Theatrical Exploration Of The Culinary And Social Habits Of Cypriots

For the third year, the Rooftop Theatre Group presents its work, with the same enthusiasm as always. The Group’s philosophy remains unchanged: theatre for social change, theatre as a tool for dialogue and exchange for ideas, theatre as a healthy basis for creating a team. The text was produced predominantly through ideas emerging from theatre exercises and interviews given by friends and strangers who have a special relationship with food. The multifaceted production explores the relationship that Cypriots have with food, in its social, sexual and symbolic context. During the performance, the audience will enjoy theatre, film, music and many food smells!

The Rooftop Group has also produced HIStory, HERstory, HOUSEstory, OURstory in 2004 and Walls Within in 2005, which, respectively, had the HOUSE and GENDER as their topics. This year, for the first time, Rooftop is collaborating with a guest director, Demas Demosthenous. Set designer is Levent Taskan and costume supervisor is Zoe Kakota, filming and editing by Costas Constandinides. Production by Rooftop Group (Ellada Evangelou and Costas Constandinides).

“Masa” means “chewing zealously” in Greek and “table” in Turkish. Such a small island, such a great obsession with food! We look forward to sharing our ideas and appetites with you.
